Aquatics Director

Position Summary:

Develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA aquatic programs.  The Director must be energetic and demonstrate the YMCA character traits of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility while being able to develop community relationships with members, other organizations and staff.    


Bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education or related field preferred.  Must have all aquatic certifications including LGI, Certified Pool Operator, First Aid /CPR, AED/O2 and basic understanding of YMCA programs, swim lessons, aquatic exercise and good knowledge of budgeting.   

Programs Included:

All Aquatic programming including youth and adult swim lessons, aqua aerobics & group fitness classes, lap swim, etc.

Essential Functions:

  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance.Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.  Must complete CPO certification in 90 days.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pool and whirlpools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
  • Schedules and teaches swim classes and water fitness classes.   
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Assists with Program Committee meetings
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Schedules birthday parties and special events in pool.
  • Develop and implement a year round learn to swim program.
  • Coordinator for the swimming instruction for additional programs, i.e. Friends in Motion, Montessori PE, Outreach Swim Lessons, Water Days for Summer Feeding Sites, etc. 
  • Conducts new employee training and orientations

Physical Demands:

The Aquatics Director must have sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities including being able to lift 40 pounds.

Floyd County School Nutrition Program's POP UP FOOD MARKET 

Typically the 2nd Wednesday of each month. However, dates may vary; please inquire about upcoming volunteer opportunities.
Coosa Valley Fairgrounds

Shift 1:  2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to pack food in boxes

Shift 2: 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. to help pass our food boxes. This shift is more physically demanding and you must be able to lift 30 pound boxes.

Please note the building is not heated or air conditioned so please dress accordingly. Bring water to drink.

Year-Round Outreach Volunteer

We are seeking volunteers to help with out Year-Round Food Program! Volunteers have the option to either help with the meal or to lead an activity with the kids. Volunteers working with the meals will help with set up, serving, and also clean up. Meal volunteers are asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to their shift to attend a brief, but mandatory, training.  We welcome individuals and groups to volunteer once or, preferably, on a regular schedule throughout the year.
