Lifeguard

POSITION SUMMARY:

Join our team today! We’re looking for enthusiastic applicants available on weekdays, weekday evenings, and during the summer season. Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and promotes safety in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Builds positive relationships with members and program participants through effective listening and verbal skills and creatively finds ways to connect them to one another and the Y community.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains active surveillance of the pool area
  • Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model; completes related reports as required
  • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area
  • Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code
  • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed
  • Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving
  • Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action
  • Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants
  • Attends all staff meetings and in-service training
  • Assist with daily cleaning and sanitizing tasks in the aquatics department
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Member Services Representative

POSITION PURPOSE

To ensure the delivery of exceptional service to YMCA members, potential members and guests.

Please note that we are looking for someone available to work weekdays from 4-9 p.m.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Deliver exceptional service by listening and responding to member needs and resolving conflict or concerns effectively and professionally.
  • Strive to know every member by name and maintain a positive, ongoing relationship with all members, guests, staff, and community partners.
  • Record sales receipts, program transactions, and memberships in a timely, accurate manner.
  • Maintain timely, relevant knowledge of all YMCA programs and services in order to accurately inform customers of the services available.
  • Check in and greet members and guests accurately and efficiently. Address notes on account upon check-in.
  • Provide consistent, friendly assistance that exceeds member expectations every day.
  • Answer telephone in a professional, courteous manner in accordance with the standards of the Association.
  • Provide assistance to potential members in completing application process and in answering any questions.
  • Work with team members to encourage the use of YMCA services, programs, and membership opportunities.
  • Support and contribute to a safe, clean environment for staff and customers.
  • Uphold YMCA policies and procedures in a respectful, positive manner.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Handle additional office work to ensure the efficient and effective running of the department.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of regular member special events.
  • Actively participate in staff training, staff meetings and professional development events.
 

Mentorship & After School Enrichment Volunteer

Mentorship & After School Enrichment Volunteer 

As a mentor, you can provide encouragement and guidance to a child or teen who needs support or has similar interests as you.  As a volunteer, you will help provide kids with positive experiences that enrich their lives. Volunteer after school, and join us in providing a safe space for kids that is accessible and engaging.

Inspire and help our community's youth reach their full potential!

Programs for Elementary Aged Children are held on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3:00pm - 4:30pm.

Programs for Teens Boys are held on Mondays & Wednesdays from 4:00pm - 5:30pm.

Summer Camp Assistant Director

The YMCA of Rome, GA, is seeking an enthusiastic and organized Summer Camp Assistant Director to help lead our exciting and dynamic summer program for children ages 6 to 12. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about youth development, teamwork, and creating a fun and enriching environment for children.

Job Description:
The Summer Camp Assistant Director will work closely with the Camp Director to ensure the smooth operation of the YMCA Summer Camp. This individual will be responsible for assisting in the planning, implementation, and supervision of daily camp activities while fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for campers and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Camp Director in managing all aspects of camp operations.
  • Assist in developing and implementing camp schedules, activities, and programs.
  • Supervise camp counselors and ensure adherence to YMCA policies and standards.
  • Act as a role model and mentor to staff and campers.
  • Monitor camper safety, behavior, and participation to create a positive experience.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and community partners.
  • Handle administrative tasks such as attendance, incident reports, and supply inventory.

The Day Camp Counselor at the YMCA of Rome and Floyd County maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families.

  1. Supervises a group of children and program activities.
  2. Follows all policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law or the Y (e.g., safety or emergency procedures, behavior guidance strategies, child abuse prevention policies); makes ADA accommodations where appropriate; maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records.
  3. Nurtures children through purposeful programming; plans activities that are intended to achieve program goals and outcomes, are culturally relevant, are developmentally appropriate, and are consistent with the Y’s values.
  4. Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth; models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  5. Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program and provides daily opportunities for youth to reflect on and respond to their experiences.
  6. Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child’s needs and progress; connects families to the Y.
  7. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.
 

Year-Round Anti-Hunger Volunteer

We are seeking volunteers to help with out Year-Round Food Program! Volunteers have the option to either help with the meal or to lead an activity with the kids. Volunteers working with the meals will help with set up, serving, and also clean up. Meal volunteers are asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to their shift to attend a brief, but mandatory, training.  We welcome individuals and groups to volunteer once or, preferably, on a regular schedule throughout the year.
