Membership Policy

MEMBERS

Members of the Rome-Floyd County YMCA (the Association) are those who (1) sign an agreement to cooperate with members in achieving the purpose of the Rome-Floyd County YMCA and agree to abide by the rules and policies as may be established from time to time: (2) pay membership dues or contribute financially to some Association project: and (3) are approved by the Membership Committee or Board of Trustees.

Members will be required to present their membership cards for admittance to the YMCA or at any time a member of the YMCA staff requests it.

In order to protect our youth and members the Rome YMCA will conduct a scan of the National Registry of Sex Offenders.  The YMCA staff cannot issue a day pass, a guest pass or allow to join or renew any person on this registry.  A picture id of all adults joining the Rome YMCA must be presented to the Front Desk staff as part of the registration.

TYPES OF MEMBERSHIPS

I. Participating Members: Members in good standing who are eligible for all phases of the Association’s activities or services.

A. Adult Membership: A person 18 years and older who wishes to participate as an individual. Includes Adult Center facilities and services.

B. Family Membership: A married couple and children. Children must be under 18 years of age or in school up to age 23 and are still living at home or any person claimed as a dependent on your current tax return. Youth facility members age 8-12 may participate in Fun Swim, and basketball. Youth facility members age 13-15 may participate in the above programs, aerobics, lap swim, pool fitness classes and after completing an Equipment Orientation they may work out in the Cardio/Wellness Center.    Teens age 13-15 are allowed to use the downstairs weight room during Non-Peak hours and must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.  Age 5-12 may participate in the Exercise Arcade, and children 6 weeks through 5-year-old may participate in the Play Center.   Youth members ages 11 & 12 may participate in group and pool fitness classes with an Adult. Members will also receive member discounts for programs.

C. Couple Membership: A married couple only.

D. Single Parent Membership: A mother or father or guardian and children. Children must be under 18 years of age or in school up to age 23 and are still living in home. Youth facility members age 8-12 may participate in Fun Swim, and basketball. Youth facility members age 13-15 may participate in the above programs, aerobics, lap swim, pool fitness classes and after completing an Equipment Orientation they may work out in the Cardio/Wellness Center. E. Senior Adult Membership: A person 65 or over who wishes to participate as an individual. Includes Adult Center facilities and services.

F. Senior Couple Membership: Married couple in which one spouse is the age of 65 and over. Includes Adult Center facilities and services.

G. College Membership: Any person age 18-25 and able to show proof of college registration. Includes Adult Center facilities and services.

H. Teen Membership: Any person age 16-17 years old who wishes to participate as an individual. Includes use of the Adult Center and facilities, excluding the Adult locker room. Individuals in this category can sign up at the Y with a parent or legal guardian. Join online is not available for this membership category.

I. Youth Facility Membership: A person age 8-15 years old who wishes to participate as an individual. Youth facility members age 8-12 may participate in Fun Swim, and basketball. J. Sustaining Members: A person who believes in the Association and its programs and purpose, who want to be identified with the Association, and who wishes to support the Association financially but does not wish to participate in any of the organized programs.

K. Program Participation: A person who is enrolled in a specific activity and who wishes to participate in that activity only without becoming a Participating Member.

L. Scholarship Members: A person who wishes to become a Participating Member or Program participant and requests financial assistance. The person must complete a financial assistance application and provide proof of income in the form of a W-2 or most recent tax return. Applicant will be notified within two weeks of their award. Financial assistance is awarded on the basis of income (including alimony, child support, retirement and social security, etc) and any public assistance received, including food stamps. Our pledge is to never turn anyone away due to inability to pay.

M. Courtesy Member: A person who, for some compelling reason, needs the services and expertise of the YMCA but has financial difficulties, and wishes to use some other form of remuneration, such as repair or cleaning services. Courtesy Membership requests must be approved by the Executive Director and Membership Director.

RATES AND FEES

Membership: The Board of Trustees shall determine and establish membership rates and fees. Special short- term rates include the following:

A. CORPORATE: Employees temporarily in Rome for training or short term service to a company may have a corporate contact at that company request a temporary pass or membership for them. The rate will be on a daily or monthly basis, depending on the length of the person’s stay, and will be at the discretion of the Membership Director.

B. CHILDREN VISITING RELATIVES WHO ARE MEMBERS: Children visiting relatives who are members of the YMCA will be enrolled in summer programs at member rate or allowed to use the facilities under the policy for their age group.

MEMBERSHIP PROCEDURES

I. Membership Payment: Fees are payable at the time of application by cash, credit-debit card or by a YMCA bank draft plan.  Effective June 1st, 2024 the YMCA will impose a Service Fee of 3% on all Credit and Debit card transactions, and 0.5% on all ACH transactions, which is not greater than our cost of acceptance.  It shall be assumed that all members are continuing members unless notice is received in writing to the contrary. The Membership Director will bill annual pay members at their renewal time. A person using the bank draft or credit-debit card draft must give thirty days written notice in order to stop the bank draft. ALL RETURNED PAYMENTS will be subject to a minimum of $30 return charge and continued failure to pay will result in the termination of the membership and the inability to use the bank draft or credit/debit card draft systems in the future. A person who owes return drafts will not be allowed to join until those charges are paid.

II. Membership Fee Refunds: Refunds of no more than one-half of the annual cash membership fees paid may be made when a person moves from Rome, Georgia to another city or state; when expulsion is ordered; or a member resigns for medical reasons. Refunds for full-pay members will not be given for any other reason.

Refunds are not given on bank or credit-debit card drafts. A person using a bank draft must give 30 days written notice to stop drafts.

III. Date of Membership: Memberships will begin on the day the member joins. Fees are prorated from the joining date until the first draft date or expiration date.

IV. Termination of Membership: Membership is entered as a permanent relationship subject to termination only under the following conditions:

(1) Member Termination Request with 30 days’ notice

(2) Failure to pay membership fees, and

(3) Suspension or expulsion. (Requires Membership Committee Approval)

A. Suspension of Members: A member may be suspended from specific or general program privileges for violation of the Association’s rules and regulations. Any member of the YMCA professional staff shall have the power to temporarily suspend any member. The case shall be referred to the Executive Director for further action.

B. Expulsion of Members: A member may be expelled from membership in the Association for conduct contrary to the purpose and goals of the Rome-Floyd County YMCA. The Executive Director must give written notification to the member.

C. Rate Increases: The Board of Directors must vote on any membership rate increases and members will be given 30 days written notice of any increases by mail.

VI. Guest Privileges:

A. A guest is an individual who is not a member of the Rome-Floyd County YMCA and wishes to use the facility when accompanied by a member of the Association. Only adult members can bring guest.

B. Residents of the city of Rome, GA, (Floyd County) and communities within a fifty-mile radius, will be limited to two visits as guests of the YMCA member. Guest fees will be $5.00 for youth and $8.00 for adult guest. Special rates will be given to groups of 10 or more guests.

C. Out of town guests of YMCA members must be accompanied by a member. Guest privileges for out of town guests cannot be extended for more than a two-week period.

D. Visiting Members that are currently active at other YMCA locations are welcomed. 

E. Active Duty Military Personnel may receive guest privileges for up to TWO WEEKS upon presentation of their current active duty military identification card. There will be no guest fee for these privileges. This does not apply to Reserves or National Guard.   

F. Guest passes for potential members are available in the form of a 3-day pass. 

VII. Miscellaneous

A. Membership cards are required to utilize the facility. Membership cards are designed and provided by the Rome-Floyd County YMCA. MEMBERSHIP CARDS ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE. At any time a Rome YMCA staff member may request a picture identification card to verify membership. Lost cards may be replaced for a $2.00 processing fee and upon presentation of a picture id.

B. Membership Enrollment Fees are a tax-deductible contribution to the Rome-Floyd County YMCA. Payment of this fee is due on joining date. If membership is terminated, member has 1 year to rejoin without paying this fee.
