POSITION SUMMARY:
The YMCA Learn, Grow & THRIVE Counselor is responsible for leading and implementing academically and social-emotionally enriching activities for children in a small group setting. Counselors are responsible for the general safety and management of the participants in his/her group. The counselor will provide high quality outdoor, educational, and recreational experiences for participants that focus on the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. In addition, staff members will assist with daily meal dispersion.
After School Program Time Frame: Monday – Friday; Usually 2 hours per day from 2:30-4:30 p.m.
Programming lasts through a school year. The YMCA THRIVE department follows the school calendar for Rome City Schools. When school is in session, programming is in the form of an After School Program which runs from 2:45 – 4:45.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Help plan, prepare for, and implement the weekly activity plan for participants.
- Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, games, academic enrichment, and projects
- Identify and respond to camper behavior issues.
- Support staff with meals, including setup and cleanup
- Ensure that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter.
- Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
- Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
- Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for students’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by your supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.
- Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision. • Strong organizational and communication skills. Physical Demands
- Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to team building initiatives, physical games, and enrichment activities.
- Must have the ability to physically support children when needed for safety in general camp activities.
- Must be age 18 or older
- Must have reliable transportation to and from program sites
- Must be have a child friendly personality with the ability to take initiative and communicate with supervisors and participants. This is a HIGH ENERGY POSITION.
- Upon hire, completion of YMCA provided First Aid and CPR certification and training classes on Codes of Conduct at the Y
- Approved background check prior to hiring.
