Grizzard Park 25th Anniversary Expansion Project

Celebrating Grizzard Park’s 25th Anniversary with an Exciting Expansion and New Improvements!

Twenty-five years ago, a vision to serve became a reality as Grizzard Park opened its gates to Rome and northwest Georgia. Today, that dream continues to flourish. 

The YMCA’s mission is to create communities where all people can achieve health, build confidence, make connections, and feel secure at every stage of life. Thanks to community partners, family, and individual donors, Grizzard Park is expanding to positively impact even more lives. Since its opening in April 1999, Grizzard Park has been a vital hub, benefiting thousands of families and children. As the home of YMCA Arsenal Rome Soccer Club and the Rome YMCA's Day Camp Program, Grizzard Park has hosted everything from mobile food markets and flag football games to BooFest, high school sports, and much more.

The exciting centerpiece of this development is a new recreation building, the Gaynelle P. and Vernon D. Grizzard Sr. YMCA, made possible by the generous leadership gifts from the Grizzard Family in honor of their parents. We are deeply honored that the family has chosen to commemorate Mr. and Mrs. Grizzard's lifelong commitment to our community and the Y through this new facility.

We are also grateful to State Mutual Insurance Company and Summit Hill Foods for their significant contributions. 

Atrium Health Floyd is our principal healthcare sponsor and provider at Grizzard Park and we are grateful for their partnership and support of Grizzard Park and all of its programs. 

Here’s a glimpse of what’s to come:

  • NEW 16,000 sq. ft. Multi-Purpose Building: This facility will enhance our Youth Soccer, Basketball, and Day Camp programs, allowing us to reach even more children and families. It will also open doors to innovative programs, including pickleball, promoting health and wellness.
  • NEW Gymnasium Space: Dedicated to youth and adult programs and activities, including basketball, pickle ball, Day Camp, indoor soccer, health and wellness programs and community events. 
  • NEW Risk Level 1 Kitchen: Thank you to the employees of Summit Hill Foods, this kitchen will significantly boost our anti-hunger efforts, allowing us to better serve the community.
  • NEW Warming Kitchen for events and meetings, also supported by the employees of Summit Hill Foods.
  • NEW Meeting Room: Accommodating up to 30 people, made possible by the Anderson Family in honor of the Brody Anderson Learning Center at Day Camp.
  • NEW Covered Terrace: Adjacent to the new kitchen, the Terrace will afford a shaded area for Day Camp activities, team meetings, and other events and gatherings. Thank you to the Richardson Family for supporting this exciting new space.
  • NEW Paved Walking Trail with Benches: This welcoming trail, supported by State Mutual Insurance Company, will provide a safe space for exercise.
  • NEW Shade Structures: To be constructed for much needed shade on our soccer fields and funded by a grant from Atrium Health Floyd-Polk Foundation and Atrium Health Floyd.
  • NEW Teaching Garden: Funded by the Safigan Family in memory of Kathryn Roussell Dupuy for Day Camp activities.
  • IMPROVED and EXPANDED Parking for the soccer complex.
  • NEW Field Lighting (completed).
  • UPDATED Restrooms in existing facilities (completed).
  • NEW Rooms in the existing field house for Day Camp activities (completed).
  • We are grateful to Basic Ready Mix for their support of of this project and to Georgia Northwestern Technical College for their Gate Sponsorship at the soccer fields.
