YMCA Year Round Meal Program

The YMCA of Rome offers meals to help children stay healthy, succeed in school, and have fun in a year round multi-site program. The YMCA combines learning enrichment activities with physical activity to keep minds and bodies active, while also serving a healthy meal to kids who may otherwise be at risk of hunger in the summer, on the weekends, or when the school day ends.

The YMCA of Rome & Floyd County serves as a participant for two federally-funded, state-administered nutrition programs: the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and the Seamless Summer Option (SSO). By participating in these programs we are able to provide well-balanced, nutritious meals to the youth of Floyd County year-round. The Rome YMCA is equal opportunity provider.

After School Programs

As a participant within CACFP, the Rome YMCA serves free meals at the Y's Learn, Grow and Thrive with the Y at Restoration Rome.

To learn more about these programs please contact Jennifer Jolly jjolly@ymcarome.org or Stephanie McElhone smcelhone@ymcarome.org.

Summer Programs

The Seamless Summer Option Program (SSO) ensures that low-income children continue to get nutritious meals when school is not in session. The YMCA of Rome & Floyd County is a SSO participant and serves our summer day camp sites and several open distribution sites within the community.

Of Note: Participants at YMCA Day Camp and KinderCamp receive breakfast and lunch through SSO this summer. Participants must be registered for camp to receive meals at these sites.

We partner with Floyd County Schools and Rome City Schools to host open meal sites every summer. In addition to offering Grab and Go meal packs, we also provide a little fun to go too. Any child or teen 18 years of age or younger can receive a free lunch at an open sites. In 2020, we provided meals at:

  • Alto Park Playground
  • Dutch Gardens Mobile Home Park
  • Restoration Rome (Meals are provided Monday - Saturday)
  • YMCA Parking Lot at 810 East Second Avenue

Meal Standards

Federal nutrition programs dictate that all meals contain vegetable, fruit, whole grain, meat/meat alternative, and milk components.
