YMCA Outreach, Enrichment and Feeding Counselor

The YMCA Outreach, Enrichment & Feeding Counselor is responsible for leading and implementing academically and social-emotionally enriching activities for children in a small group setting. Counselors are responsible for the general safety and management of the participants in his/her group. The counselor will provide high quality outdoor, educational, and recreational experiences for participants that focus on the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. In addition, staff members will assist with daily snack and meal dispersion.

Time Frame: Monday – Friday; Usually 2.25 hours per day; from 2:45 – 5:00 pm. Saturday hours are available. Saturday hours are usually 2.0 hours per Saturday and can be around 12:15 – 1:45.

Programming lasts through a school year. The YMCA Outreach department follows the school calendar for Rome City Schools. When school is in session, programming is in the form of an After School Program which runs from 2:45 – 4:45.  Programming is also conducted during school holidays around the lunch time hours of 12:15-2:30.

Essential Responsibilities: • Help plan, prepare for, and implement the weekly activity plan for participants. • Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, games, academic enrichment, and projects and does include assistance with daily snack and supper service • Help regulate participant behavior by: helping structure and maintain program routines, helping follow schedule, identifying and responding to participant behavior issues. • Ensure that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter. • Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences and report concerns to Leadership. • Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, meal paperwork, logbook documentation, and daily attendance. • Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the program. • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for students’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.

Requirements: Age 18 and older, Reliable transportation to and from feeding sites, child friendly, ability to take initiative and communicate with supervisors and participants. This is a HIGH ENERGY POSITION .

Qualifications -  Upon hire, completion of YMCA provided First Aid and CPR certification, completion of a background check • Training on classes on Codes of Conduct at the Y• Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities. • Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision. • Strong organizational and communication skills. Physical Demands • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to team building initiatives, physical games, and enrichment activities. • Must have the ability to restrain and physically support children when needed for safety in general camp activities (child weighing 40 - 200 pounds).
